Ira Pearce “Sonny” Lee, Jr.

Funeral services for Ira Pearce “Sonny” Lee, Jr., 84, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Kerry Dinkins will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Lee passed away at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, GA, on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Sessions, John Sessions, Chuck Lee, Bill Henderson, Tracy Walden and Hugh Russell Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be all who knew and loved Sonny and those who are in attendance today.
Mr. Lee was born on May 7, 1938, in Cairo, GA, to the late Ira Pearce Lee, Sr. and Irene Womble Lee. On January 7, 1961, he married Natholyn Vickers Lee, who survives. They were married for 61 years. He began his work career as a procurement manager with Balfour Lumber and later was the CEO of Balfour Land Company. Sonny worked with Balfour for over 55 years. He was best known as “Chops” to his family and friends. Sonny became an Eagle Scout and was a strong supporter of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Boys Ranch. He was a devoted member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, which he loved very much along with his church family.
Survivors include: his wife, Natholyn Lee of Cairo, GA; sons, Vic Lee (Cecilia) of Cairo, GA, Tyler Lee (April) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Hugh Russell Lee (Logan) of Culpepper, VA, Mikayla Lee, Taylor Lee (Nick), Harper Lee, Avery Kate Lee, all of Cairo, GA; great-grandson, Easton Pearce Lee of Culpepper, VA; sister, Martha Clyatt (Gordon) of Franklin, NC; brother-in-law, Charles Shupe of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Billie Williams and her husband, Carroll, and Ann Shupe; grandparents; Henry and Hattie Mae Womble, William Albert and Mary Broome Lee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hugh and Gladys Vickers; grandmother-in-law, Granny Mert.

The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of Pine Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
