Funeral services for James Burmer Asbell, 94, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA, with Military Honors. Rev. Gwynn Hayes will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Asbell passed away at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, FL, on Friday, January 12, 2018.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Wayne Asbell, Johnny Asbell, Jeffrey Asbell, Donald Mark Asbell, Matthew Asbell, Jacob Asbell, Tracy Asbell and Patrick Asbell.
Mr. Asbell was born on November 18, 1923, in Graceville, FL, to the late Louis F. Asbell and Mary E. Courtney Asbell. On April 26, 1942, he married Myrtle M. Moneyham Asbell, who preceded him in death on December 16, 2003. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Asbell was an automobile mechanic, and had retired in 1998, from Spence Automotive, Thomasville, GA. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include: sons, Donald H. (Linda) Asbell of Dalton, GA, James E. (Kathy) Asbell of Crawfordville, FL, Kenneth (Delorise) Asbell of Thomasville, GA, H. Mickey (Mary Ann) Asbell of Crawfordville, FL, and Ronnie (Sharon) Asbell of Cairo, GA; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Myrtle M. Asbell; brothers, Wilmer M. Asbell and Henry Asbell; sister, Juanita Bush.
Memorials may be given in Mr. Asbell’s name to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL, 32308-5428.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Sunday, January 14, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
