Funeral services for James William Phillips, Jr., 78, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Capel Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate. Interment will be in Capel Baptist Church Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Phillips passed away at his home in Grady County, GA, on Thursday, May 12, 2016.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Bowling, Lorenzo Johnson, Jeremy Phillips, Greg Overmier, Jimmy Wheeler, and Jim Tyson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Irwin, Joe Dekle, John Corley, Mike Davis, Buck Mills, and Fred McCallum.
Mr. Phillips was born on January 27, 1938, in Thomasville, GA, to the late James William Phillips, Sr. and Helen Ruth Carroll Phillips. He served his country in the U. S. Navy. On Jan. 25, 1959, he married Mary Elizabeth Ponder Phillips, who survives. He was a retired machinist from M&W Sportswear, Ashburn, GA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Moultrie, GA.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Elizabeth Ponder Phillips of Cairo, GA; children, William Keith Phillips (Marcie) of Mountain View, AK, Richard Franklin Phillips of Cairo, GA, Carole Elizabeth Phillips Miller (Marvin) of Moultrie, GA, Mandee Lynn Phillips Toms (Patrick) of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, William Walter Phillips of Stedman, NC, Ashley Phillips Colclasure of Shakopee, MN, Michelle Lynn Phillips Tyler of Moultrie, GA, Samantha Renee Phillips Shorey of Valdosta, GA, Kara Kristine Miller Bowling of Statesboro, GA, Charles Trevor Toms, Mary Claire Toms, Anna Marie Toms, all of Cumming, GA; four great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Phillips (Paula) of Woodville, FL; sister, Jeanette Schultz (Pete) of Greenville, SC; sister-in-law, Sheryl Phillips of Albany, GA.
He was preceded in death by: parents; grandson, Evan Fletcher Miller; sisters, Helen Carol Overmier, Betty Sue Rohrick, Jeanne Miller; and a brother, Thomas Rupert Phillips.

The family will receive friends at Capel Baptist Church on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m., the funeral hour.
