Funeral services for Janice Dozier Maxey, 82, of Tallahassee, FL, are at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Cairo Church of God, Cairo, GA. Pastor DeWayne Atkinson will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Maxey passed away at her daughter’s home in Tallahassee, FL, on Friday, March 17, 2017.
Active pallbearers will be great-grandsons: Drake Robertson, Blake Robertson, Logan Chester, Dylan Harrell, Gage Harrell, Devin Williams and Christopher Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Robertson and James Chester, Jr.
Mrs. Maxey was born on December 11, 1934, in Whigham, GA, to the late Authur J. Bishop and Maggie Boyette Bishop. On July 9, 1955, she married George S. Dozier, who preceded her in death on January 10, 1986. She was an administrative secretary with Grady General Hospital for many years and later worked with Graco Fertilizer. Janice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a mighty servant of God. She was a member of the Cairo Church of God.
Survivors include: daughters, Jana Chester (Leonard) of Tallahassee, FL, Monna Chester (Edward) of Calvary, GA; foster-daughter, Margaret Odom (Leon) of Sumner, GA; grandchildren, Jamie Robertson (Laura) of Cairo, GA, Angel H. Langston (Brett) of Sopchoppy, FL, Malone Chester of Calvary, GA, James E. Chester, Jr. of Calvary, GA, Misty Fain of Gulf Shores, AL; foster-grandchildren, Beverly Hancock of Sumner, GA, Leonna Baggett of Sylvester, GA, Janese Odom of San Antonia, TX; step-grandchildren, Stacey Chester, Joseph Chester of Tallahassee, FL; great-great-children, Drake S. Robertson (Summer) of Cairo, GA, Blake Robertson (Jade) of Cairo, GA, Logan Chester of Calvary, GA, Dylan Harrell, Gage Harrell, both of Sopchoppy, FL, Dayla Flowers of Gulf Shores, AL; foster-great-grandchildren, David and Ansle James of Sylvester, GA, Nico and Illima Jaceldo of San Antonia, TX; step-great-grandchildren, Devin Williams of Tallahassee, FL, Christopher and Makayla Brown of Tallahassee, FL, Michael, Teri and Crystal Chester of Tallahassee, FL, Aubrey Robertson of Cairo, GA, Ryleigh Robertson of Cairo, GA; sister-in-law, Florence Bishop of Thomasville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husbands, George S. Dozier, Gerald Mathews Maxey; daughter, Rita Dozier Fain; brothers, Delma Bishop, Hershel Bishop, Jack Bishop; and sisters, Lula Mae Morrison, Ila Williams, Pauline Irwin, Dorothy Logue.
The family will receive friends at the Cairo Church of God on Monday, March 20, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
