Jimmy Wayne Simmons

Funeral services for Jimmy Wayne “Pee-Wee” Simmons, 73, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019, at the Church of God, Cairo, GA. Pastor DeWayne Atkinson will officiate. Interment will be in Harrison Family Cemetery, Cairo, GA.
Active pallbearers will be Judson Darrell Simmons, Ray White, Alvin Thomas, Al Thomas, Roy Simmons and Troy Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul White and Johnny Walsh.
Mr. Simmons was born on December 13, 1945, in Cotton, GA, to the late Emmett Marion Simmons and Lilly Pearl Smith Simmons. On May 15, 1970, he married Joyce White Simmons, who survives. He was a retired carpenter with Allerbest Development, Inc. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Jimmy died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He has a loving and caring wife of 49 years, whom he loved with all his heart. His children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. He loved spending time with his brothers and sisters. Anytime they said the word, “Fish Fry,” he was there. Jimmy has several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He spoke so proudly of them all. Jimmy’s best accomplishment in life was creating a life time of memories with his children, grandchildren and the love of his life, Joyce. He was a strong man but had a gentle soul, for he was loved and blessed by many. He will always remain in the hearts of his family and friends. He will not be forgotten. “Daddy, you got your angel wings, and until we see you again, we love you dearly.”
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Simmons of Cairo, GA; daughters, Lillian “Libby” Surles (Daniel) of Coolidge, GA, Brenda Stewart (Andy) of Cairo, GA, Glenda Stegall (Joseph) of Thomasville, GA; son, Judson Darrell Simmons (Sabrina) of Valdosta, GA; grandchildren, Taylor Stegall, Lilly Stegall, Autumn Suffield, Summer Suffield, Angel Simmons, Hunter Simmons; brother, Ernie Simmons of Land-O-Lakes, FL, sister, Mae Walsh of Camilla, GA; sister-in-law, Annialee Simmons of Cotton, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; granddaughter, Faith Elisabeth Simmons; brothers, Marvin Simmons, Bobby Simmons, Cecil Simmons; sister, Thelma Little; sister-in-law, Sandra Simmons; and brothers-in-law, Vernon Walsh, Mayo Little.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
