John L. “Johnny” Hancock
October 2, 1943 – July 12, 2023  

Memorial services for John L. Hancock, 79, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Sunday August 6, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Chris Allen will officiate.  Visitation will follow in the Fellowship Hall.  Mr. Hancock passed away at home on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Mr. Hancock was born on October 2, 1943, in Grifton, NC, to the late Marvin Lester and Louise Aycock Hancock.  On September 27, 1964, he married Susan Burroughs Hancock, who preceded him in death on March 12, 2021.  They were married for 56 years. He worked as a teacher and coach and was known by all as “Coach Hancock.”  Johnny was a devoted member and deacon at the Cairo First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his daughters, Kaye Lamar (Clay) of Sale City, GA, April Reckford (David) of Cairo, GA; his grandchildren, Kyli Lamar of Cairo, GA, Madison Hill (Kyle) of Valdosta, GA, Clayton Lamar of Sale City, GA, Cuy Lamar of Sale City, GA, Kenneth Everett Reckford of Cairo, GA, Ada Reckford of Cairo, GA; his brothers and sisters, Betsy Barber (Jimmy) of Cairo, GA, Carlton Hancock of Cairo, GA, Steve Hancock (Patsy) of Thomasville, GA and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, his wife and a nephew, Hunter Hancock.
