Memorial services for John William Abbott, 68, of Cairo, GA will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, Calvary, GA. Pastor Henry Jones and Pastor Rob Cronin will officiate. John passed away peacefully on May 27, 2016, at his home and surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on December 2, 1947, in Thomasville, GA, to the late W.C. Abbott and Elmeta Brooks Abbott. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Barineau Abbott, on January 14, 1967 and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a master contractor, building homes for people all over the United States. Wherever he went, people were inevitably drawn to John and his larger-than-life humor. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John’s survivor’s include: wife, Sharon Barineau Abbott of Cairo, GA; sons, John David Abbott (Melissa) of Whigham, GA, and William Cary Abbott (Cynthia) of Buford, GA; daughter, Elizabeth Case Maynard (Tim) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Haley Maynard of Anchorage, AK, Katelyn and Jonathan Abbott of Whigham, GA, Olivia and Riley Maynard of Cairo, GA, and Evan, Ethan, and Ava Abbott of Buford, GA; brothers, Lewis Abbott (Ann) of Crawfordville, FL, and Bob Abbott (Pam) of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Nancy Calhoun of Fayetteville, GA; sister-in-law, Judy Abbott of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donnie Abbott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s memory to: Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.

The family will receive friends and family immediately following the service at Calvary Baptist Church.
