Jonathan Risgby Cox
March 19, 1972 – December 15, 2024

Jonathan Risgby Cox, also known as Jon to many close to him, died December 15, 2024, at his home in Lilburn GA. He was born March 19, 1972, in Bainbridge, GA to Raynell and Emmett “Sonny” Cox. He was a dedicated family man. He was survived by his wife Beth and son Ian; mother Raynell; sister Allison and brother-in law Aaron Charlesworth, father-in-law Rick Smyre, brother-in-law Deric and sister-in-law Cheryl Smyre, sister-in-law Dana and brother-in-law Oscar Hurtado; niece Maddie Charlesworth; and nephews Josh Charlesworth, Caleb Smyre, Aiden and Keifer Hurtado. He was preceded in death by his father Sonny.

Jon grew up in Whigham, GA, a small town in Southwest GA. He still had close ties to his family and friends there even though he spent much of his adult life in the Atlanta area. He graduated from Brookwood High School in Thomasville, GA, received his BS in Biology from the University of Georgia in Athens and obtained his MBA from Georgia State University. Jon worked in sales and production management roles throughout the years but was known for his love of family, friends and animals, particularly dogs. He was always there to lend a hand when anyone asked for it and was known to offer one if he thought it was needed. Beyond family, friends and animals, Jon loved fishing, the beach, traveling and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Jon said a number of times that he would love to adopt all unwanted dogs, as he said that dogs gave pure unconditional love. Given his love of four legged friends, please donate to the Gwinnett Humane Society – www.gwinnetthumane.com, where Jon volunteered, in lieu of sending flowers to the family.

The family will hold a service by the pond at his mother’s home in Whigham, GA, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1 p.m.
