Josie Knowles Ulmer

Graveside funeral services for Josie Knowles Ulmer, 93, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018, in Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Elder Jon Mizell will officiate. Mrs. Ulmer passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA on Sunday, October 14, 2018.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Brock, Robert Baxter, Owen Cassells, Roddy Jones, Ralph Jones, Jr., Mark Jones and Tim Jones.

Mrs. Ulmer was born on March 7, 1925, in Cairo, GA, to the late Otha Knowles and Leila Colson Knowles. On January 13, 1951, she married Hubert Wayne Ulmer, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2008. They were married for 57 years. Josie loved attending gatherings at Turkey Creek Community Center and going to church at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and going fishing. Josie loved her family and friends.

Survivors include: daughters, Betty Jo Baxter (Lamar Prince) of Cairo, GA, Connie Sue Brock (Mike) of Whigham, GA; grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Brock of Whigham, GA, Robert Wayne Baxter, Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Owen Cassells of Cairo, GA, Sophia Gilstrap of Panama City, FL; her twin sister, Maxie Jones of Thomasville, GA; brother-in-law, C. J. Rehberg of Thomasville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; granddaughter, Mandy Jo Baxter; brothers, Jeff Knowles, John Knowles; and sisters, Mattie Bell Broadway, Lucille Lamb, Mildred Duren, Lillian Rehberg.
