Funeral services for Joyce Hopkins Hudson, 79, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Grace Pointe Church, Thomasville, GA. Pastor Brent Welch will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Hudson passed away at her home in Grady County, GA, on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Brinson, Johnny Darsey, Dennis Miller, Morris Anderson, Chuck Abbott, Gary Heald.

Mrs. Hudson was born on January 24, 1937 in Mitchell County, GA, to the late Vance Hopkins and Sally Mae Adams Hopkins. She graduated in 1955 from Cairo High School, where she was a stand-out basketball player. On June 2, 1957, she married David Clayton Hudson, who survives. She retired from the Pensacola News Journal. She was a member of Grace Pointe Church in Thomasville, GA.

Survivors include: husband, David Clayton Hudson of Cairo, GA; son, Chris Hudson of Pensacola, FL; daughter, Cathie Helton (Jim) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Paige Helton, Kayla Helton, Faith Helton, all of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Wilma Jarrell of Woodstock, GA, Clarine Waldron of Cairo, GA, Alene Anderson of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Verma Lee Willis Snipes; and a brother, Wyatt Hopkins.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Hudson’s memory to: Grace Pointe Church, 16603 US Hwy 19 N, Thomasville, GA 31792.

The family will receive friends at Grace Pointe Church immediately following the funeral service at the church.
