Funeral services for Judy Gainous Barrett, 86, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Cairo Church of God, Cairo, GA. Pastor DeWayne Atkinson and Rev. Brian Boutwell will officiate. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Barrett passed away at her home on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
Active pallbearers will be her family members, Josh Ward, Kevin Salter, Allen Barrett, Jaevyn Salter, A. J. Childs and Nester Candelaria.
Mrs. Barrett was born on November 24, 1935, in Cairo, GA, to the late Cecil Gainous and Ruth Logue Gainous. On November 20, 1954, she married Howard Benjamin “Jr.” Barrett, who preceded her in death on February 16, 2019. She retired as supervisor with Warner’s in Thomasville. Judy was famous for her baking of wedding and birthday cakes. She enjoyed cooking for her loving family on holidays and special occasions. She was a devoted member of the Cairo Church of God.
Survivors include: daughters, Sharon Ward (Dennis) of Cairo, GA, Karon Salter (Garry) of Cairo, GA; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Barrett of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Krista Candelaria (Nestor), Amanda Salter, Allen Barrett (Candace), Candace Childs (A.J.), Kevin Salter (Ashley), Brittani Buckner, Josh Ward, all of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Jaevyn Salter, Kenzlea Candelaria, Kaylee Barrett, Kady Childs, Peyton Salter, Kameron Moye, Avery Salter, Eli Candelaria, Rainee Buckner, Andy Childs, all of Cairo, GA, Rylee Scott of Iron City, GA; sister-in-law, Nina Gainous of Cairo, GA; her favorite fur baby, Lola; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; son, Benjamin Allen “Benny” Barrett, Sr.; great-grandson, Max Candelaria; and brothers, Ted Gainous, Jimmy Gainous.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Bethany Hospice & Palliative Care for the wonderful loving care of Mrs. Barrett from their devoted workers and nurses.
