Funeral services for Margie Nutt Cape, 79, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2025, at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Pastor William Hurst will officiate. Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Cape passed away peacefully at Advent Redmond Hospital, Rome, GA, on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She entered Heaven while surrounded by her family and spent her last moments with them singing and praying.
Active pallbearers will be Trey Johnson, Bryson Cape, Cameron Childree, Joseph Wallace, Hunter Stoddard and Scott Davenport.
Mrs. Cape was born on September 10, 1945, in Pitts, GA, to the late Felton Nutt and the late Celia Benson Nutt. On April 21, 1963, she married Donald Haynie Cape, Sr., who survives, and they were married for almost 62 years. She retired from W.B. Roddenbery Company as a Secretary and then became a full-time nanny.
As a faithful member at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, worked in the nursery and was also active in the youth ministry. She was also a member at First Baptist Church Locust Grove. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and nanny. One of her biggest accomplishments was to see her children and grandchildren express the Christian faith that she instilled in them.
Survivors include her husband, Donald H. Cape, Sr. of Cairo, GA; son, Jeffrey Cape (Sheila) of Cairo, GA; daughters, Jennifer McDonald (Matt) of Rome, GA and Marla Johnson (Jody) of Social Circle, GA; grandchildren, Bryson Cape (Hannah) of Cairo, GA, Brooke Wallace (Joseph) of Rome, GA, Taylor Grace McDonald of Rome, GA, Trey Johnson (Mimi) of Monroe, GA, Mallory Childree (Cameron) of Monroe, GA, Blakley Johnson (Hunter Stoddard) of Social Circle, GA; great-grandchildren, Phoebe Childree of Monroe, GA and Emory Johnson of Monroe, GA; brother, Richard Nutt (Judy) of Pitts, GA; sister, Marlene Vaughn of Douglas, GA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald “Donnie” H. Cape, Jr; sister, Mary C. Wood; and brother-in-law, Joe Vaughn.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Cape’s memory to Gordon Heights Baptist Church, 1351 5th Street SE, Cairo, GA 39828.
