Martha Pearce Hawthorn

Funeral services for Martha Pearce Hawthorn, 86, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Centennial United Methodist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Wayne McDonald will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Hawthorn passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL, on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Chastain, Matthew Myers, Bruce Hawthorne, Terry Davis, Carey VanLandingham and Larry Perkins.

Mrs. Hawthorn was born on March 24, 1931, in Cairo, GA, to the late Harvey Pearce and Mamie Green Pearce. On July 9, 1949, she married Roy Gwinett Hawthorn, who passed away on October 15, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of Centennial United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter and a member of the Eastside Baptist Quilters.

Survivors include: her son, Kenneth Hawthorne (Martha C.) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Michael Chastain (Carla) of Bainbridge, GA, Brittany Myers (Matthew) of Alpharetta, GA; great-grandchildren, Margaret Chastain, Thomas Chastain, Harrison Chastain, all of Bainbridge, GA, Eleanor Myers of Alpharetta, GA; half-brothers, Jerry Pearce (Linda) of Cairo, GA, Bobby Pearce (Lois) of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents: husband; brothers, Marlin Pearce, Melvin Pearce, Maurice Pearce, James Pearce; sisters, Lillian Rich, Lela Mae Perkins; and half-brothers, Wayne Pearce, John Pearce, Marcus Pearce.

The family will receive friends at Centennial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
