Martha Ruth Elkins

Funeral services for Martha Ruth Elkins, 84, of Cairo, GA, are at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill and Rev. Chris Allen will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Elkins passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Sunday night, October 23, 2016.
Active pallbearers will be Glenn Joiner, Kyle Joiner, Emery Hancock, Emerson Hancock, Will Elkins, Chuck Bass, Randy Jackson, Kevin Chason, Chuck Tyler and Jack Drew. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ethel Smith Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Elkins was born on July 1, 1932, in Dublin, GA, to the late John Lewis Allen and Emmie Christian Allen. On July 18, 1954, she married Billy Elkins, who survives. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia. She was a home economics teacher at Cairo High School and retired from the Grady County Board of Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo.
Survivors include: her husband of 62 years, Billy Elkins of Cairo, GA; daughter, Mona Hancock (Don) of Cairo, GA; son, Bill Elkins (Paige) of Cairo, GA; son-in-law, Glenn Joiner of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Kyle Joiner of Orlando, FL, Brin Joiner of Athens, GA, Emery Hancock of Cairo, GA, Emerson Hancock of Cairo, GA, Caroline Elkins of Cairo, GA, Will Elkins of Cairo, GA; sisters, Mary Bass of Dublin, GA, Jeanie Harden (Gary) of Atlanta, GA; brother, Earl Allen (Carol) of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her daughters, Amanda Elkins, Molly Elkins Joiner; her sisters, Mildred Lennertz, Helen Allen; and her brothers, James Allen, J. B. Allen, Ray Allen, Bobby Allen.

The family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
