Funeral services for Meril Kay Shiver Gainous, 71, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Faith Christian Center, Cairo, GA. Pastor Bill Staten will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Gainous passed away at her home in Cairo, GA, on Monday afternoon, August 8, 2016.

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Tootle, Bill Bass, Sr., John Hinson, Raymond Hurst, Edwin Sanders and Sid Pridgen. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bishop, Harry Young, Lanny Nicholson, Chris Cooper, Richard Moore and David Coleman.

Mrs. Gainous was born on May 1, 1945, in Cairo, GA, to the late Spence Deleon Shiver and Lucille Griner Shiver, who survives. On July 6, 1963, she married Russell Bradley “R.B.” Gainous, Jr., who survives. She was employed with the Grady County Board of Education for several years. She was a member of Faith Christian Center. She always enjoyed visiting and spending time with her grandchildren in Huntsville.

Survivors include: her husband, Russell Bradley “R.B.” Gainous, Jr. of Cairo, GA; son, Trey Gainous (Linda) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Michael Gainous, Julie Gainous, both of Huntsville, AL; mother, Lucille Griner Shiver of Cairo, GA; sisters, Beth Hancock of Cairo, GA, Linda Bearden (Fred) of Cairo, GA; brothers, Jerry Shiver (Nancy) of Tifton, GA, Ricky Shiver (Michelle) of Coral Springs, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

The family will receive friends at Faith Christian Center immediately following the funeral service.
