Memorial services for Minnie Lewis Gainous, 89, of Cairo, GA, are at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Elder Ron Bosley and Elder Ron Evans will officiate. Mrs. Gainous passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Monday, July 24, 2017.
Mrs. Gainous was born on September 11, 1927, in Cairo, GA, to the late Leonard Lewis and Verlie Singletary Lewis. On September 13, 1947, she married Douglas Dewitt Gainous, who preceded her in death on October 26, 2002. She was a housewife and had been employed with the Grady County Board of Education in the Jobs With Dignity Program. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include: son, Phillip Gainous of Thomasville, GA; daughter, Barbara Thomas of Toccoa, GA; grandchildren, Tracy Gainous of Whigham, GA, Destin Gainous (Enma) of Cairo, GA, Chad Gainous (Joy) of Cairo, GA, Josh Gainous (Alisha) of Whigham, GA, Mincie Huskey (Jeremy) of Whigham, GA, Kim Ashe-Steckelberg (Rick) of Toccoa, GA, Bryan Thomas (Becki) of Australia; great-grandchildren, J. T. Combs, Miranda Lynn Combs, Tristan Cain, Devin Gainous, Henry Gainous, Grace Gainous, Lily Gainous, Abram Gainous, Madison Gainous, Lydia Gainous, Riley King, Austin Ashe, Nicholas Ashe, Anna Ashe, Fisher Steckelberg, Harrison Thomas, Weston Thomas; great-great-grandchild, Reagan Brinson; sister, Polly Hatcher of Thomasville, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; son, Don Gainous; son-in-law, James Thomas; and a sister, Zimmie Collins.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, immediately following the memorial service.
