Nelda Stevens Cantrell

Funeral services for Nelda Stevens Cantrell, 89, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Al Sessions will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Cantrell passed away in Jacksonville, FL, on Friday, September 7, 2018.

Active pallbearers will be Deacons of Gordon Height Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cantrell was born on August 13, 1929, in Smithville, MS, to the late Coy Stevens and Louise Stevens. Nelda was the oldest of ten siblings which she helped to raise. She was married to D. H. Cantrell, who preceded her in death on July 24, 2008. She was an employee for over 20 years at Citizens Bank and retired as a Vice President. She and DH were long-time members of Gordon Heights Baptist Church in Cairo. Nelda and DH had a wonderful life traveling the world. She was loved by numerous family and friends and was a dedicated wife and mother.

Survivors include: daughter, Beverly Colarusso (Daniel) of Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Cantrell Cother of Moultrie, GA; grandchildren, Wendy Middlebrooks (Stacy) of Norman Park, GA, Amy Oliver of Windermere, FL, Jay Cantrell of Savannah, GA, Kelley Wingate (Donnie) of Moultrie, GA, Danielle Trubiatisky (Micheal) of Pensacola, FL, John Henderson of Jacksonville, FL; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Doug Stevens (Barbara) of Dallas, TX, Joe Stevens (Angelia) of Fayetteville, AK, Dwight Stevens of Aberdeen, MS; sisters, Joyce Baker (Rex) of Amory, MS, Ruth Young of Amory, MS, Sue Wiggington of Amory, MS, Carolyn Wilson (Jim) of Amory, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; a son, Jerry Cantrell; and sisters, June Silar, Lorine Stevens.

The family will receive friends at Gordon Heights Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
