Funeral services for Robert Douglas “Robbie” Simmons, Jr., 46, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the Rose City Church of God, Thomasville, GA. Rev. Gerald Horne, Rev. Bill Wilson and Rev. Tyler Carter will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Simmons passed away at his home in Cairo, GA, on Monday, September 11, 2017.
Active pallbearers will be Pat Pollock, Bobby Newmons, Daniel Singletary, John Walton, Russell Register, Mike Binion and Brandon Harrington. Honorary pallbearers will be Tito Hall, Steve Cercy and the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Simmons was born on September 4, 1971, in Albany, GA, to the late Robert D. Simmons, Sr. and Betty Sue Simpson. On October 10, 2000, he married Melissa Kaye Duncan Simmons, who survives. He was an investigator with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office. He was an active member of the Rose City Church of God in Thomasville.
Survivors include: wife, Melissa K. Simmons of Cairo, GA; step-sons, Travis Simpson, Joseph Simpson, both of Cairo, GA; brothers, Roy Simmons (Julie) of Cairo, GA, Troy Simmons (Alma) of Cairo, GA; sisters, Angie Neal of Albany, GA, Patricia Eidson of Thomasville, GA; step-father, Jesse Bailey of Tennessee; brothers-in-law, Ricky Duncan (Lisa) of Thomasville, GA, Donnie Duncan (Jackie) of Sylvester, GA; sister-in-law, Christina Austin (Lee) of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Daisy.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Bobby Simmons; his mother, Betty Sue Simpson; and a great-nephew, Luke Rusk.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
