Funeral services for Robert Edward Lee, 84, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Kerry Dinkins and Rev. Charles Parker will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Lee passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
Active pallbearers will be: Wayne Windham, Steve Lee, Rodney Harrison, Mark Lee, Jon Lee, Ricky Whiddon, Pat Whiddon, Mike Whiddon, David Whiddon and Jeff Whiddon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class at Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Lee was born on March 8, 1938, in Cairo, GA, to the late Berry Maddox Lee and Maggie Stephens Lee. He served his country in the United States National Guard. On June 3, 1960, he married Eleanor Cannon Lee, who survives. They were married for almost 62 years. He was self-employed and spent his life farming on the family farm. Robert was a member and director of the Grady County Farm Bureau and the Grady County Young Farmers. He was one of the founding members of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief for many years and he served as a Director of the Grady EMC for 33 years. He was a member of the Calvary Lions Club, was very instrumental in building the Syrup Making Evaporator and was chief syrup cooker. Robert served as a Deacon of Pine Hill Baptist Church for many years.
He loved to cook for a crowd and this was evident by the annual ‘Chittlin Supper’ that took place the 1st Friday night in April for many years. For 36 years he was the ‘Head Chef’ for the Annual Ralph Hammett Day held in Reno each year. He cooked numerous pots of chicken pileau for community functions. His joy was helping and serving others whether it was cooking or helping in any way he could.
Survivors include: his wife, Eleanor Lee of Cairo, GA; children, Danny Lee (Barbara), Pelham, GA, Pam Jones (Blake) of Cairo, GA; sister, Geraldine Harrison of Cairo, GA; brother, Weyman Lee (Martha) of Cairo, GA; sister-in-law, Martha Keily of Perry, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Elizabeth Maxwell (husband Leonard), James Lee (wife Hazel), Ronald Lee (wife Sybyl); and a brother-in-law, Fred Harrison.
