Memorial services for Robert Gene “Smokey” Costner, 82, of Cairo, GA, are 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Trinity Anglican Church, 325 W. Jackson St, Thomasville, GA 31792. The Rev. Morgan Clark will officiate. Mr. Costner passed away at his home in Cairo, GA, on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Mr. Costner, or “Smokey” as he was known to his family and friends, was born on December 3, 1941, in Maryville, TN, to the late Fate Costner and the late Ruby Sparks Costner. He married Rita May Red Starr Costner, who preceded him in death.
A veteran of the US Air Force, he worked for many years as a machine operator at W.B Roddenbery Company and later retired from Ring Corporation in Valdosta, GA. He later worked at Sportsman’s Village, where most people knew him from.
Survivors include his children, Greg Costner (Siobhan), Pamela Costner, Deborah Kelly (Kevin) and Trinity Costner, all of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Katherine Kelly, Zachary Kelly, Dakota Costner, Jacob Costner, Chloe Folsom, Everleigh Costner, Alyssa Kia Shindel (Bret) and Dusty Kelly; sister, Donna Shinliver (Mike); nephews, Mickey Blair and Terry Blair (Teresa) as well as a host of other nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita May Red Starr Costner; son, David Earl Costner; and siblings, Gilbert Costner, Herman “Tuffy” Costner, Kenneth Costner and Dovie Costner Blair.
