Shirley Brookins Dewert
February 18, 1940 – December 29, 2022

Funeral services for Shirley Brookins Dewert, 82, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Lee Brookins will officiate.  Interment will be in Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA.  Mrs. Dewert passed away at her home on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

Active pallbearers will be Richie Hawthorne, Robin Hawthorne, Travis Hawthorne, Tray Johnson, Rick Croley and Jaden Brookins.

Mrs. Dewert was born on February 18, 1940, in Cairo, GA, to the late Robert Marvin Hawthorne and Mattielene Barber Hawthorne.  On October 10, 2009, she married William Dewert, who survives.  She was a retired banker.  Shirley was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Whigham.

Survivors include: her husband, William Dewert of Whigham, GA; her children, William Brookins (Alison) of Wichita, KS, Doss Brookins (Laurie) of Whigham, GA; grandson, Jayden Brookins of Wichita, KS; brother, James Hawthorne (Angie) of Whigham, GA; sister, Carolyn Lowe of Havana, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents: her first husband, Billy Brookins, who passed away on December 16, 2002; son, Michael Alexander Brookins, brothers, Berl Hawthorne, Robert Hawthorne, Winston Hawthorne; and a sister, Betty June Franklin.
