Shirley Womble Poff

Shirley Cox Womble Poff, 81, of Cairo, GA, passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA, on Friday, December 25, 2020. The family will have a memorial service at a later time.
Mrs. Poff was born on February 12, 1939, in Whigham, GA, to the late Robert Gene Cox and Lavelle Howard Cox. She was a member of the CHS Class of 1957 and later a graduate of ABAC in Tifton. She was an executive administrator of the Department of Agriculture-Farmers Home Administration for over 40 years. On December 20, 2017, she married Dan Poff, who survives. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cairo. Shirley loved to organize the meetings for the Class of 1957. She kept the classmates updated on each other. She was also the sister who kept the family organized and updated with information on the extended Cox family. She enjoyed gathering with classmates, the cousin’s lunches and playing cards with friends.
Survivors include: her husband, Dan Poff of Cairo, GA; children, Mary Anne Willis of Tifton, GA, Kara Lynn Spears (Buddy) of Cairo, GA; grandson, Jason Willis (Shae) of Tifton, GA; great-grandchildren, Zoe Willis, Owen Willis, Aubrey Willis, all of Tifton, GA; brother, Jerry Cox, Sr. (Ellen) of Cairo, GA; sister, Ellen White of Cairo, GA; sister-in-law, Judy Cox of Cairo, GA; and a host of stepchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, Frank Womble; her infant daughter, Nancy Lavelle Womble; a brother, Ronnie Cox; and a brother-in-law, Tommy White.
