Funeral services for Susan Elaine Black, 71, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. William Hurst and Rev. Rod Brinkley will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Black passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA, on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Mrs. Black was born on February 17, 1951, in Meridian, MS, to the late Ralph Henson Combs and Sara Amanda Beard Combs. On September 19, 1991, she married Harvey Black, who preceded her in death on August 13, 2004. She was a real estate salesperson with Realty Mart, Inc. in Cairo. She was a member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church in Cairo. In addition to her family and friends, she loved gardening, traveling and riding horses.
Survivors include: her sons, Jason Grant Ballard (Lisa Marie) of Louisville, KY, Gary Ballard (Courtney) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Savana Ballard, Jordan Ballard, both of Louisville, KY, Ally Ballard, MaKenna Ballard, both of Cairo, GA; brother, Charles Combs, Sr. (Barbara) of Lakeland, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Harvey Black; and a sister, Joan Varnadoe.
