Ted Edward Hicks

Private graveside funeral services for Ted Edward Hicks, 88, of Ochlocknee, GA, are on Friday, August 28, 2020, in Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Elder Jon Mizell will officiate. Mr. Hicks passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA with his daughters by his side, on Monday, August 24, 2020.
Mr. Hicks was born on April 18, 1932, in Cairo, GA, to the late James Loyd Hicks and Mary Curtis Jackson Hicks. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On October 20, 1962, he married Carolyn Harrison Hicks, who survives. They were married for 57 years. He retired from Watt Building Material Co., Inc. as Vice-President, where he worked for 37 years. He was on the Board of Directors at Ravenwood Academy during his children’s school years. Mr. Hicks was a part time farmer and in his retired years he enjoyed planting a big vegetable garden. He faithfully attended all four Primitive Baptist Churches in the Flint River Association. Ted was a very loving and attentive husband. He loved spending time with his four grandchildren, especially their twice a year trips to the Great Smoky Mountains. He will be remembered as someone who loved to just sit and talk.
Survivors include: his wife, Carolyn Harrison Hicks of Ochlocknee, GA; daughters, Marsha Hicks-Davis of Ochlocknee, GA, Cheryl Hicks Perkins (Steve) of Whigham, GA; and grandchildren, April Perkins Ferrell (Trey) of Cairo, GA, Steven Perkins, of Whigham, GA, Abigail Davis of Ochlocknee, GA, Allison Davis of Ochlocknee, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Loyd “J.L.” Hicks, Jr.
