Virgil Lamar Perkins
August 31, 1933 – May 7, 2021

Funeral services for Virgil Lamar Perkins, 87, of Whigham, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the Rose City Church of God, Thomasville, GA.  Rev. M. Thomas Propes, Rev. Matthew Propes and Rev. Gerald Horne will officiate.  Interment will be in Oakview Cemetery, Donalsonville, GA.  Rev. Perkins passed away at his home on Friday, May 7, 2021.

Active pallbearers will be Tracey Lee Perkins, Darrell Pearson, Geoffrey Lawrence, Hamilton Carver, Lance Hawthorne and Leroy Starling.

Rev. Perkins was born on August 31, 1933, in Cairo, GA, to the late Samuel P. Perkins and Ethel Sellers Perkins.  He was a minister with the Church of God denomination, and he evangelized all over Southeast Georgia before pastoring two churches, Port City Church of God in Bainbridge, GA and Boykin Church of God in Boykin, GA, where he later retired from pastoral ministry.  He also owned and operated the Town House Restaurant in Cairo, GA and the Decatur House in Bainbridge, GA.

Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Wynn Perkins of Whigham, GA; daughter, LaQuita Propes (Thomas) of Ooltewah, TN; son, David Wynn of Whigham, GA; daughter-in-law, Beverly Perkins of Brunswick, GA; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Diane Connell of Cairo, GA; his trusted Jack Russell Terrier friend, “J.R.”; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife of 56 years, Loray Herring Perkins; children, Lamar Perkins, LaJuana Perkins; granddaughter, Summer Joy Propes; brothers, TA Perkins, Carlton Perkins, Vernon Perkins; Maurice Perkins, Primus Perkins, Ronald Perkins, Horace Perkins; and a sister, Christine Phillips.

The family will receive friends at the Rose City Church of God, Thomasville, GA on Sunday, May 9, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
