Voncile Morgan Elkins

Funeral services for Voncile Morgan Elkins, 91, of Thomasville, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2016, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Matt Barlow and Rev. Russ Elkins will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Elkins passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Friday, March 25, 2016.
Mrs. Elkins was born on March 6, 1925, in Cairo, GA, to the late Homer and Janie Gordy Morgan. She graduated from Cairo High School in 1942 as did her future husband, Pearce Russell Elkins. Voncile attended business school and worked in several department stores and clothing shops. On September 23, 1945, she and Pearce eloped over the Ochlockonee River to Thomasville where they made their home and raised their two sons, Russ and Lance Elkins. Pearce Elkins retired from the U. S. Postal Service and he preceded her in death in 1994. Voncile became friends with another Cairo High graduate, Roscoe Mitchell, and together they covered the South Georgia and North Florida social scene. They loved to attend the Pelham Country Music Jamboree. Although raised as a Baptist, she joined Dawson Street United Methodist Church and was active while her health was good. Her ministry, she said, was visiting the folks in the area nursing homes.
Survivors include: sons, Russ Elkins (Deanna) of Adel, GA, Lance Elkins of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Amanda Elkins of Tampa, FL, Brian Elkins of Tallahassee, FL; a brother, Irvin Morgan (Marion) of Nahunta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and a sister, Adrene Wheeler.

The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service at Clark Funeral Home.
