Graveside funeral services for Walter Sidney Gainey, 73, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Rev. Shuford Davis will officiate. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard. Mr. Gainey passed away at his home in Cairo, GA, on Sunday, January 13, 2019.
Honorary pallbearers will be Van Ponder, Eddie Daughtry, Tyler Maxwell, Wayne Windham, Terry Darsey, Wayne Whiddon and Richard Gardner.
Mr. Gainey was born on September 30, 1945, in Cairo, GA, to the late Ralph Gainey and Eleanor Julia Lewis Gainey. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Florida State University. On July 12, 1970, he married Phyllis Wimberly Gainey, who survives. He was the owner and operator of Gainey Farms and Dogwood Hunting Preserve. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Wimberly Gainey of Cairo, GA; sons, Richard Gainey (Katie) of Havana, FL, Chad Gainey (Anna) of Calvary, GA; grandchildren, Sophia Gainey, Mary Frances Gainey, Victoria Gainey, all of Havana, FL, Alexia Gainey of Calvary, GA; and a brother, Lewis Gainey (Delois) of Athens, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends at the Gainey Family Camp House at Dogwood Hunting Preserve on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
