William Lamar Thompson, Sr.

Private graveside funeral services for William Lamar Thompson, Sr., 80, of Thomasville, GA, will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Rev. Jeffery Johnson will officiate. Mr. Thompson passed away at Pruitt Health Sunrise in Moultrie, GA, on Sunday, April 12, 2020.
Mr. Thompson was born on September 29, 1939, in Adel, GA, to the late Chandler Livingston Thompson and Minnie Clark Thompson. He was a retired truck driver with Oil Dri Corporation. In his lifetime he got to see a lot of our beautiful country from the seat of his 18-wheeler. He also had the opportunity to see the world through his dedicated service in the Navy. He was a member of Northwoods Church Of God and affiliated with Glad Tidings and The Connection. Lamar was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grand kids, playing games, telling stories. He was a man of God that loved helping his friends and neighbors. He always met you with a smile and loved to joke around to make you feel welcomed. He was a man of his word, he provided for his family, he made sure they were taken care of, no matter the sacrifices he had to make. Lamar was active with the youth at Northwoods church. His passion was driving the bus to special events. He loved spending time with the seniors by playing bingo whenever he had the opportunity. He looked forward to the day he could be with the Lord. He will forever be missed from all that knew him.
Survivors include: son, Bill Thompson (Janet) of Cairo, GA; daughter, Pennie Connell (Tim) of Boston, GA; step-son, Mike Lamanick of Thomasville, GA; step-daughter, Cathy Lewis of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Houston Thompson of Monticello, FL, Sydney Kirksey (Blair) of Cairo, GA, Collin Smith of Tallahassee, FL, Peyton Smith of Boston, GA; great-grandchildren, Reid Kirksey of Cairo, GA, Skyyln Thompson of Cairo, GA, Kason Thompson of Cairo, GA; and his sister, Maxine Daughtry (Paul) of Thomasville, GA.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Ethel Thompson; son, Jeffery Chandler Thompson; step-son, Terry Lamanick; brothers, Marrell Thompson, John Thompson, Milton Thompson, Stanley Thompson; and a sister, Inez Thomas.
